Evaluation of production..

Last year with media i had learnt many new skills and techniques when it came to producing a flat plan and the print side of my advanced production work, meaning i could use these skills again and improve on them more and gain professionalism to my work and use this towards how my final products. However when it came to my realisation that i would also be doing a teaser trailer working with film and moving pictures, thats when i realised i had a lot to learn. As the idea of producing a teaser trailer seemed very new and difficult to me i did a lot of research on trailers and there conventions on the internet and youtube for example and then later on in the process watched tutorials on youtube on how to put your film clips into the chosen editing program and how to put them together and cut bits out etc.

I used an apple software called 'Final Cut Pro' when it came to editing all my film clips and sounds together. I found this extremely challenging and this took me many days to complete but after watching a selection of tutorials and making sure i knew what i wanted to do with my film trailer i managed to pull it all together and produce what i would call a good teaser trailer.

Whilst editing i was looking through at all the effects i could add to my trailer on final cut pro, sounds and colours. All the non dieogetic sounds that i added i filmed with my camera (eg the scream at the end, the creepy laughing) and then uploaded it into final cut pro and cut the image and just kept the sound to place over the top of where i preferred it. Then once i had roughly edited the film together i added the effects for example the vignette which created the dark mist around the edge and the corners of the shot to create a mysterious dark feel for the audience. A big problem i came across was that the film clips i had uploaded was recorded as a interlaced H2.64 video which meant scan lines were becoming obvious making the quality of the film look bad so after looking up what i could do to prevent this i discovered i needed to de-interlace the film and i did just that. Another added effect i used on final cut pro was the 'bad film' effect which is the effect that makes the image look like its flickering which i used in parts of my film to add a certain feel to the trailer to make the audience feel almost uncomfortable when watching it, making them think there is something very strange going on.

The whole idea behind my film teaser trailer was to create an aery feel when the public are watching it, the original idea for having a happy romantic film quickly changed to a romantic thriller as i thought this would be a bigger interest to the public. I wanted the end product to have short quick cuts between shots making it feel like a big rush of energy for the viewing public and experimental camera techniques to add the effect that maybe someone else is watching through the camera and to make the audience feel like there actually there experiencing the trailer and wanting to see more and to watch the film when it comes out.

To make the trailer even more spooky, nearly all of the clips that you see in the trailer are filmed in a dark forest / woods in the middle of know where creating a lonely feel for the audience, portraying that the couple cant run away from this mad man. The interesting thing about how i ended the teaser trailer is you never know whether it was the female the mad man had been stalking that was dragged away in a body bag or the females lover. I think this added effect will keep the audience hooked and wanting to find out who it was in the body bag and what exactly is going to happen after.

For the print side of things i mostly used pages and photoshop to create my magazine front cover and teaser poster. For my magazine front cover i selected the two images i wanted to use from images i had previously taken on my camera and opened them up onto photoshop and set the image of the two men as the background image and then layered the image of the female on top and carefully erased out the background behind the female and carefully erased around the outline of the females hair to create this look and also brightened the whites of her eyes using the dodge tool.

Evaluation of research.

The key feature in producing a professional piece of media is the research that goes behind it. To create a confident and bold piece of film i needed to look into what was expected from the film industry. As my theme for my film teaser trailer is romance with a thriller twist i had to do alot of research on youtube and many articles online on different romance trailers and thriller trailers separately and looked carefully at the different conventions used in both and the music and non diogetic sounds in the background for example and use some of the ideas i had collected in my research for my own teaser trailer to make it look and feel professional to the targeted audience.

With the research behind designing my teaser poster i used the internet to first look up general teaser posters and noted down the conventions found. I then extended this research by purely only looking at thriller / dark film teaser trailers to make sure my design ideas would relate to the target audience and the darkness of my film teaser trailer itself. Much of the research I carried out started out primary and involved asking people what looks good on a teaser poster and again with the front cover, also the detail they like to find on the two products. This was then backed up with the connotations and evaluations i had noted and completed of teaser posters and film front covers in the genre i had chosen.

Similarly with the research behind my film magazine front cover i evaluated well known film front covers online and film magazines i had purchased personally to pick out the main conventions and key features used on the cover of a selection of film magazines.

Evaluation of planning.

When planning for my advanced portfolio, I had to consider the main target i was given which was to produce a film teaser trailer which would be viewed by the public in cinemas and on tv screens and then had to develop my ideas from that brief professionally including completing a teaser poster and film magazine front cover all linking to each other.

MEDIA A2 COURSEWORK

This year for my A2 media advanced portfolio project i had chosen to produce a film teaser trailer along with creating a film magazine front cover promoting the film and a teaser poster to advertise and sell the film. My level of work from my A2 project was very different to the work expected in As level work. For example for my A2 work i was expected to take the skills i had learned from As and to expand from them using new software's, editing skills, new technologies and to show more professionalism finishing up my work.
